Lobos Host Aztecs on Senior Night

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team (16-13, 9-7 MW) will play its final home game of the season and celebrate senior night against the San Diego State Aztecs (21-8, 14-2 MW) Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.
 
The Lobos will be celebrating senior night by sending off three outstanding student-athletes competing in their final games as Lobos. Being honored are Michael Nesbitt, Connor Joy and Tim Jacobs. Senior Day festivities will begin at the conclusion of the game.
 
Prior to, the Lobos will look to even the score against the Aztecs following a controversial finish earlier in the season in San Diego. The Lobos lost in overtime, 78-71, following a call at the end of regulation that was later deemed incorrect by the Mountain West Conference office. The Lobos pushed the Aztecs to the brink on their floor, thanks to a combined 44 points from Elijah Brown and Tim Williams.
 
At 9-7 with two games left, the Lobos are looking to keep pace with three teams ahead of them. They are still in reach of the second seed in the MW Tournament, but need to start their run with a win on Tuesday. Second-place Fresno State will face Colorado State the following night, while Boise State and Nevada, tied for third, face off Wednesday as well.
 
The Aztecs have wrapped up the regular season championship and the top seed in the MW Tournament. They are 14-2 in league play, coming off a 66-63 loss to Boise State.
 
The Coaches:
Craig Neal will lead the Lobos in their final home of the season for the third time as head coach. He has 58 wins in his three seasons, 35 of which have come in WisePies Arena. A win on Tuesday will tie his season-high in home wins at 13.  Steve Fisher is in his 17th season as the head coach at San Diego State. He holds a career record of 469-272, with 360 wins as the leader of the Aztecs.
 
The Series:
The Lobos hold an all-time record of 44-37 against the Aztecs. The home team has had a big advantage in the series, as the Lobos have won 27 out of 37 games inside WisePies Arena. However, the Aztecs have played the Lobos well in WisePies Arena as of late. Since January 2008, the series is split at 4-4 in Albuquerque. The Lobos’ last win over San Diego State came in the 2014 Mountain West Conference Championship on March 15, 2014, 64-58.

The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network. The broadcast will begin at 7:30 p.m. MST. Fans can find CBSSN on Comcast channels 274/838 (HD), DISH channel 158 and DirecTV channel 221.
