Complete 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America Team

AUSTIN, TexasGarrett Adcock, the nation’s only second-year law student that is playing FBS football, was named a CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American.  He is just the tenth player in program history to accomplish the feat and it’s the 13th CoSIDA Academic All-American honor overall for the Lobo football program.  He is the eighth First Team selection for the team.

In addition, Adcock is the 98th student-athlete from The University of New Mexico to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, and he is UNM’s second this Fall, joining Niko Hansen of men’s soccer.  Adcock’s honor continues UNM’s streak of at least two honorees in each of the last 15 years.

Adcock, who also was named Academic All-District in 2014, is the football programs’ first CoSIDA Academic All-American since Zach Arnett in 2008.  Adcock is also one of three finalists for the Wuerffel Trophy along with Christian McCaffrey of Stanford and Trevor Knight of Texas A&M.

Academically, he is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, and is a three-time Mountain West Academic All-Conference selection.  In 2015, he was a UNM Athletics winner of the Director’s Chair for graduating with a 4.00 GPA.  Adcock announced his retirement on October 19 after a second concussion this season that basically would have kept him out for the reminder of the season.

Adcock wasn’t eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-District honors last year due to injuries that limited his games played.  This season he played in four games, all starts, as UNM leads the nation in rushing offense with 360.9 yards per game.  Adcock is also a member of the football team’s Leadership Council.  He has spent the past few weeks after his injury helping to coach the offensive line, including Avery Jordan, who replaced him in the lineup.

The CoSIDA Academic All-America selection is also a first in the 10-year head coaching career for Bob Davie.
