Lobos Face Eastern New Mexico in Second Exhibition

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team will face off in an exhibition contest against the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds Friday at 7 p.m. in WisePies Arena – The Pit.

The Lobos are 1-0 this preseason, with a win Wednesday over Western New Mexico, 113-57. In that game, freshman Damien Jefferson scored a game-high 16 points in his first game as a Lobo. He shot 5-for-12 from the field, 1-for-5 from 3-point range and 5-for-8 from the foul line.

Alongside Jefferson, four other players scored in double-digits. Seniors Obij Aget and Tim Williams had 14 and 13 points respectively. Sophomores Connor MacDougall and Jordan Hunter both pitched in 12 points. Hunter shot perfectly from behind the arc, going 4-for-4. Sophomore Dane Kuiper added a game-high seven assists while juniors Joe Furstinger and Xavier Adams finished with a team-high eight rebounds.

Friday’s game is the final exhibition game of the 2016-17 preseason and the final run through in a live game before the Nov. 11 season opener against Idaho State in The Pit.

The Coaches:
Craig Neal is in his fourth season as head coach for the Lobos and 10th year at UNM overall. He owns a 59-38 record. The Lobos finished fourth in the Mountain West last year with a 10-8 record. Overall, the Lobos finished with a 17-15 record.

The Greyhounds are led by first-year head coach Tres Segler. Segler became head coach of the Greyhounds on April 13, 2016. Prior to ENMU, Segler served as the top assistant at Midwestern State since 2012.

Series History:
The history between the Lobos and the Greyhounds goes back to the 1941-42 season. The two teams first met on Dec. 19, 1941. UNM and ENMU’s last regular season match-up was in 2000. The Lobos are 4-0 against the Greyhounds in exhibition play.

Exhibition History:
After the Lobos win against Western New Mexico on Wednesday, the Lobos have now won 20-straight exhibition games, dating back to May of 2007. They are 71-6 overall in exhibition games and have not lost a preseason exhibition game since Nov. 8, 2001, when the Lobos were bested by EA Sports Southwest, 87-81.
