ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – On top of signing two four-star recruits last week and starting the season off with two wins, the University of New Mexico men’s basketball team landed another prospect in Mike Parks, Jr. for the 2017-18 season.

“We are very fortunate to have Mike join us,” said head coach Craig Neal. “Mike gives us another inside player with some experience. We are excited about the other two that have signed, but we need front-court depth with Tim Williams and Obij Aget graduating. Mike gives us somebody that has the physical tools. He has a 7-1 wingspan. He can rebound, score in the block and he is going to be a terrific player here.”

Parks, a 6-9 forward, commits to New Mexico from Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit, Miss. Last year, he played at Missouri State – West Plains and average 8.3 points per game and 4.3 rebounds per game in 16 games. He shot 64 percent from the field, which ranked in the top 10 of the NJCAA. So far this season for the Bears, he is averaging 9.0 points and shooting 75 percent through four games.

The Lobos match-up against Rio Grande Rival New Mexico State Friday at 7 p.m. inside WisePies Arena – The Pit. The game will be available on ESPN3.
