New Mexico Will Host NCAA First Round

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — After earning its first Conference USA Championship in program history, the University of New Mexico men’s soccer team earned the league’s automatic bid into the 2016 NCAA Tournament and was announced as host of the NCAA First Round in Monday’s NCAA Selection Show. The Lobos will host the University of Portland on Thursday night at 7 p.m. under the bright lights of the UNM Soccer Complex. UNM remains undefeated at home this season, 8-0-1.

The gates for Thursday night’s game will open at 6 p.m. Fans are encouraged to buy their tickets early to avoid the game-day lines. Tickets can be conveniently purchased online at UNMTickets.com, at WisePies Arena – The Pit, the UNM Bookstore or at any local Albertsons. The UNM ticket office is open Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Lobos are one of 48 teams to earn their spot in the 2016 NCAA Tournament. The 48-team field is made up of the champions of 24 conferences, who qualified automatically, in addition to 24 teams that were selected at large. The top 16 teams were all seeded and receive first round byes. All first-round games will be played Thursday, Nov. 17, while all second-round action will take place Sunday, Nov. 20.
