Tyler Heil

position

Assistant Coach

Tyler Heil enters his third season with the Lobos in 2019-20 under third-year head coach Dr. Paula Congleton. Heil was named to the position on August 11, 2017 and made the transition to UNM from Santa Barbara City College where he was a part of Congleton’s staff.

“I am honored to have Coach Heil on our staff,” said Congleton. “He has a wealth of knowledge as an infield and hitting coach and has a really good eye for the game. I have complete confidence in Tyler in his ability to coach and recruit. We’re really excited about the opportunities we have here at UNM and you are going to see nothing but the best from us.”

As an assistant coach for the Vaqueros, Heil worked with the infielders and was also the team’s hitting coach in 2017. He was also a part of the Santa Barbara City College’s baseball staff prior to joining Congleton and the softball team.

Heil, a 2005 graduate of Reno High School, played baseball at College of San Mateo from 2006-07. He helped lead the Bulldogs to a 64-20 record, back-to-back conference titles and earned First Team All-Coast honors.

Following his time at CSM, Heil earned a scholarship to San Josè State where he earned the Spartans’ starting shortstop job in 2008 and went on to help lead the team to a Western Athletic Conference Championship in 2009, going 41-20 in his senior year.

After finishing and receiving his degree in Health Science from San Josè State, he went on to play Independent Professional Baseball for the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League from 2010-11 and the Ottawa Champions of the Can Am League in 2015.
